About

dr_heidi_hilton_raw03

Before following her passion in science and medical communications, Dr Heidi Hilton worked in academic research from 2002-2018, specialising in oncology, endocrinology, molecular biology and cell biology. She completed a PhD in breast cancer research in 2009 at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Sydney, Australia) before taking up a position as a Research Fellow at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (University of Sydney). There she was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship (2012-2016) followed by a Career Development Fellowship (2016-2018) by the National Breast Cancer Foundation. During this time she was the lead author on several research publications and reviews (with invitations to present at both national and international conferences), and received a number of external peer-reviewed grants to support both her own salary as well as her research.

This experience in laboratory research gave Dr Hilton high level skills in taking complex scientific data and translating it into simple text for a range of audiences. Dr Hilton has extensive experience in writing manuscripts, reviews and grant applications, performing manuscript and grant reviews, proof-reading and editing of manuscripts and theses, and generating posters and slides for conference presentations.
